Love has long been the language of classic literature. From Pride and Prejudice to My Fair Lady to Les Miserables, each of these beloved stories features, at its core, a story of two people coming together and earning their happy ever after. But in all the stories we study as children and adore as adults, it’s always a man and a woman earning love. LGBTQ+ people have existed throughout history, but in Western classics, they’ve been erased or, worse, killed or made the villains of the piece. That ends now. Welcome to Classics Queered--modern retellings of our favorite classics by some of your favorite LGBTQ+ authors, except this time the guy gets the guy, the girl gets the girl, and queer people always get a happy ending.
